"The Words of the Lord are pure Words: as silver tried in a furnace
of earth, purified seven times. Thou shalt keep them, O Lord, thou shalt preserve them
from this generation for ever." (Psalm 12:6-7)
Newington, CT for
DBS--July 23-24, 2003
The Dean
Burgon Society's 25th Anniversary
Preparations are now
being made for our 25th Annual Dean Burgon Society Meeting to be
held July 23-24, 2003 at the Emmanuel Baptist Church and
Theological Seminary in Newington, CT. The Pastor is Dr. Michael
Bates. The Dean of the Seminary is Dr. Thomas Strouse, one of the
members of our DBS Executive Committee. Can you join us for the
meeting?
To find out more
details about the meeting, you can either
WRITE The Emmanuel
Baptist Church, 296 New Britain Avenue, in Newington, CT 06111, or
you may PHONE them at
860-667-6208, or you may FAX
them at 860-666-0146. If you want to know more about our Dean
Burgon Society itself, you may CALL
us at 856-854-4452 in our offices at 900 Park Avenue,
Collingswood, New Jersey. Why not call the main office to ask about DBS
membership.
This July 23-24th
meeting of DBS will not be a usual meeting. It will be unusual. It
represents 25 years of DBS history. It doesn't seem that long for those
of us who have been in this battle for the DEFENSE OF TRADITIONAL
BIBLE TEXTS. Though our personnel have changed over the years, our
Articles of Faith have not. They are just as true today
as when we wrote them 25 years ago.
Even if you are able to
attend our DBS meeting this year, you may still want to get copies of
the audio tapes so you can re-listen to them any time. You might
also have missed one of the 21 messages and this way you could hear them
all. Perhaps you are not able to attend this year. If this is the
case, you might want to get the audio tapes of the meetings as
well. We usually have 8, two-hour cassettes for a gift of $24.00 +
$3.00 S&H. You can pre-order these tapes if you wish and we can
send them out when they are ready.
You might want
to both hear and see the messages from this year's meetings. You can do
this by getting the video tapes of this year's historic 25th
anniversary program. There are three, six-hour video tapes for a gift
of $35.00 + $5.00 S&H.
The Emmanuel
Baptist Church secretary, Mrs. Yvonne Kauppinen, has reserved 20 rooms
for our DBS people from July 22 through July 24. She was able to
get a special price of $75 per day for the 15 queen size
bedrooms and $85 per day for the 5 king size bedrooms. The
address of the Hawthorne Inn is 2387 Wilbur Cross Highway, Berlin, CT
06037. The phone is 860-828-4181. The FAX is 860-828-1634.
A complimentary break- fast is included in these prices. Reservations must be made by Wednesday, July 2nd. The Hartford area is
booked solid because of the Greater Hartford Open Golf Tournament,
so if you plan to come, I suggest you get your reservations in when you
receive this issue of the Dean Burgon News. There are still some
rooms available as of this date. If you wish, you can check other motels
in the area, of course.
If you are able to
come to our DBS 25th Anniversary meeting, please plan to arrive in
Newington, CT on Tuesday, July 22nd, so you can attend the meetings
in the morning of Wednesday, July 23rd. All the men of the church
and other men who attend the DBS meetings are invited to the DBS
Executive Committee meeting from 9:00 to 12 noon. We believe
it is beneficial for visitors to see what our leaders discuss and plan for
the future. We do things in an open manner.
All the ladies are
invited to the DBS Women's meeting from 10:00 to 12 noon on
Wednesday, July 23rd. We would like all of the women of Emmanuel
Baptist Church and others who are attending to join our DBS Women's
meeting. Mrs. Yvonne Waite, the DBS President's wife, is in charge of the
meeting. She has contacted several ladies who will take part in these
meetings. She will be speaking on the subject of "The Inspiration of
the Bible." This is a term that is much misunderstood by many today.
Mrs. H. D. Williams will also be a speaker on the program for the
ladies. Mrs. Reno will be telling the ladies about the young people's
writing contest sponsored by her church each year. Mrs. Almeida will be
giving a report on the false Portuguese Bible versions in Brazil. Mrs.
Brown will give a brief testimony. Other ladies will be added to the
meeting as July 23 gets closer.
We have not heard
from any of our DBS people nor from the church that they have received any
reservations to eat at church both Thursday noon and Thursday night for a
total of $18.00 each. Because of this, we have thought it wise to cancel
these arrangements. In this way, the church will not be out anything by
way of preparations. We appreciate the church's willingness to help in
this way.
If you have access
to the Internet, you can go to our www.DeanBurgonSociety.org.
Look under Annual Meetings to see the various eating places in the
area. Then click on DBS, 2003 to get into the area where you can
then click on Maps, Restaurants, and Lodging areas.
To find out what
our Dean Burgon Society believes, you can go to our website at
www.DeanBurgonSociety.org and then click on Official Positions
and then click on Articles of Faith. There are twelve headings in
our doctrines listed from "A" through "L." The main area is under section
"A" which is entitled "The Bible." In summary, our DBS believes in
(1) infallible, inerrant, God-breathed original Hebrew and Greek Words.
(2) preservation of those inspired Hebrew and Greek Words in the Hebrew
and Greek Words underlying our King James Bible. (3) the King James Bible
is the only accurate English translation of those inspired preserved
Hebrew and Greek Words.
