DBS has 27 rooms reserved at the Quality Inn
right in Arden, NC. (828-684-6688) They have a deluxe contin-
ental breakfast which includes waffles, french toast, hot biscuits,
bagels, muffins, danishes, juices, cereal, milk, and coffee. Sounds good
to me! If you say you are with the DBS, the rate for either
singles or doubles is $65 per day. It is only 2.9 miles from the
church. Take exit #6 off Interstate 26, proceed east on
Long Shoals Rd., turn right on Skyland Inn Drive. Call NOW! We
reserved 27 rooms, and only 8 have been taken, so there are only 19 rooms
left. Get your reservations TODAY if possible!!
Mrs. Waite would like to invite all the ladies of the
church and area to attend the DBS Women, 10-12 noon, Wednesday, July
24th. The meeting is at the Grace Fellowship Baptist Church, Arden,
NC located at 511 Long Shoals Road. You can call the church if you
have any questions of how to get there.
This year, we will have a special speaker from Liberia,
West Africa. She is Tiangay (Mrs. Solomon) Joah. Her husband is
Pastor of Refuge Baptist Church in Liberia. She was to have come last
year, but could not get her visa. She has her visa now and will be
speaking on the subject, "The Bible Version Issue & and African Woman."
Other speakers will be the Pastor's wife, Mrs. Hardin, Mrs. Bob Doom, and
D. A. Waite, Sr. Hope to see many ladies at this meeting.
In case you can't be at the meetings, you can order
audio tapes (9 audio cassettes @ $25 + $4 S&H) or video tapes (3
video tapes, six hours each, @ $35 + $5.00 S&H).
You can go to our DBS website that is kept up by
Mr. Ted Grasser who is on our DBS Advisory Council. The web address
is www.Dean BurgonSociety.org. Go to the home page, click on
"ANNUAL MEETINGS," then click on "DBS 2002, 24th ANNUAL MEETING."
You'll find "MAP OF ARDEN, NC, RESTAU-RANTS, and LODGING." This is
very useful information.
This year, there will NOT be meals at the church.
We will be going to the nearby restaurants for breakfast (if not at your
motel), lunch, and supper. You'll notice on the website that there are
many places to eat. Page two of the listing of restaurants gives places as
close as 0.7 miles from the church. Brother Ben Wilkerson has sent our
office a list of six suggested restaurants for your consider- ation: (1)
Sugar Daddy's Diner; (2) J&S Cafeteria; (3) Shoney's; (4) Ryan's; (5)
China Garden, and (6) Sagebrush Steakhouse. You will receive a handout
with the location and general price ranges of these when you arrive at the
Confer- ence.
Pastor Danny Hardin has asked us to include this in our
communications for the July 24-25, 2002, meeting in his church. He has
asked our Dean Burgon Society people to observe the following dress code
for the meetings:
"Grace Fellowship Baptist Church requests the
following dress code for those attending the DBS meetings, men are
expected to wear slacks, no shorts, and the ladies are expected to wear
dresses or skirts and tops, no slacks, to the meetings. The building
will be air conditioned and comfortable. Pastor Danny Hardin"
I am sure that all of our Dean Burgon Society attenders
will respect this dress code as the church and its pastor have requested.
We don't have any problems with this standard and will be happy to conform
to it. Our people have these standards.
We received a few reactions from some readers about the
position of the Dean Burgon Society on translations (whether in English,
French, German, Spanish, Italian, or any other language) as being referred
to as "given by inspiration of God." God Himself did not "breathe
out" (and this is what the words, "given by inspiration of
God" stand for in the Greek text of 2 Timothy 3:16) the words of
the translations of the Bible in the various languages of the world. God
did not do it--men did it. For us to affirm that God "breathed out"
the various transla- tions of the world, that would, by definition, be a "double
inspiration by God" which must be rejected by all Bible-believing
Christians. There is a great deal of confusion about what is meant by the
words "given by inspiration of God" (2 Timothy 3:16), and it
behooves each redeemed Christian to understand the terms properly. Many
have learned this incorrectly and must un-learn this error.
The wonderful book written by Dean John William Burgon
entitled, The Last Twelve Verses of Mark, was the first book
reprinted by our Dean Burgon Society. It was done in paperback. We sold
out all these copies and now have it reprinted in hardback. It is
#1139 @ $15.00 + $4 S&H. Be sure to get this hardback edition of
this very useful book. Phone in your credit card order to 856-854-4452.
