"The Words of the Lord are pure Words: as silver tried in a furnace
of earth, purified seven times. Thou shalt keep them, O Lord, thou shalt preserve them
from this generation for ever." (Psalm 12:6-7)
DBS Meets In Arden, NC, July 24-25, 2002
For our 24th Annual Dean Burgon Society Meeting, we
have been invited to the area of Asheville, North Carolina. It is
in Arden, NC, but it is close to Asheville. Our host Pastor is
Pastor Danny Hardin. The host church is Grace Fellowship Baptist
Church which is located at 511 Long Shoals Road, Arden, NC 28704
(a suburb of Asheville, NC).
Brother Ben Wilkerson provided us with these directions
to the church: Arriving from the north: Off of 140 take 26
east to Exit 6 (Skyland/Long Shoals Rd.). At the light turn right, proceed
0.7 miles, turn left into driveway of GFBC. Watch for the large sign on
the left. Arriving from the south: Off of 126 take Exit 6 (Skyland/Long
Shoals Rd.). At the light turn left, proceed 0.8 miles, turn left into
driveway of GFBC. Watch for the large sign on the left.
There are four phones you can use to
contact people who can help you with any questions you might have. (1)
You can leave a message on the Church phone which is 828-654-0800.
(2) You can call Pastor Hardin at home after 5:30 p.m. EST at
828-675-9544. (3) You can call Pastor Hardin at his work phone
at 828-678-3013 during the day. (4) You can call Mr. Ben
Wilkerson at 828-681-0370 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. EST. He is helping
the Pastor as the coordinator for the meetings. We appreciate his valuable
assistance.
The dates for the 24th Annual Meeting of our DEAN
BURGON SOCIETY have been set for Wednesday and Thursday, July 24-25,
2002. We hope you can set aside these dates for this July and join
us at the Grace Fellowship Baptist Church in Arden, North
Carolina. We suggest you get in Tuesday, July 23rd so you can
be on hand for the Executive Committee meeting Wednesday at 9 a.m.
(Open to all men) and the DBS Women at 10 a.m. (Open to all
ladies).
For all of the information on our 2002 Dean Burgon
Society meeting, you can go to our DBS website that is kept up by
Mr. Ted Grasser who is on our DBS Advisory Council. The web address
is www.DeanBurgonSociety.org. To find out the in- formation, just
go to the home page, then click on "ANNUAL MEETINGS." When there,
click on "DBS 2002, 24th ANNUAL MEETING." There, you can find the
following things: "MAP OF ARDEN, NC, RESTAURANTS, and
LODGING."
You'll notice on the internet-site that the motels are
arranged by the distance from the church. I like the Quality Inn
right in Arden, NC. (828-684-6688) They have a deluxe
continental breakfast which includes sausage patties, grits, hot
biscuits, bagels, muffins, danishes, juices, cereal, milk, and coffee.
Sounds good to me! If you say you are with the DBS, the rate
for either singles or doubles is $65 per day. It is only 2.9
miles from the church. Take exit #6 off Interstate 26,
proceed east on Long Shoals Rd., turn right on Skyland Inn Drive.
Call NOW!
If you look at the Internet site for the Dean
Burgon Society, you will find the following motels with

By the time of our next Dean Burgon News,
Dr. Bob Barnett, one of our DBS Vice Presidents, will have our list of
speakers, subjects, and times. We are grateful for Dr. Barnett's help in
this endeavor each year.
This year, there will NOT be meals at the church. We will
be going to the nearby restaurants for breakfast (if not at the motel),
lunch, and supper. You'll notice on the website that there are many places
to eat. Page two of the listing of restaurants gives places as close as
0.7 miles from the church. Brother Ben Wilkerson has sent our office a
list of six suggested restaurants for your consideration: (1) Sugar
Daddy's Diner; (2) J&S Cafeteria; (3) Shoney's; (4) Ryan's; (5) China
Garden, and (6) Sagebrush Steakhouse. You will receive a handout with the
location and general price ranges of these when you arrive at the Conference.
As usual, one of our DBS Vice Presidents, Dr. Bob
Barnett, has been contacting our prospective speakers for this year's DBS
meetings. Along with the letter of invitation, he will be including a copy
of our current "DBS Questionnaire" which contains eight items.
Please return these to our DBS office (Box 354, Collingswood, NJ
08108).
In order for us to arrange in a timely manner our
program for July 24-25, we are requesting our Executive Committee,
Advisory Council, and all speakers to return their Questionnaires by
April 30, 2002.
On our DBS Questionnaire for our leaders and
speakers, question #2a was agreed upon without objection in our
Executive Committee meeting last year, July, 2001. The first part states:
"I have no problem following our DBS documents' official position on
referring to the King James Bible. If I become, either DBS Executive or
Advisory Council member, I will be careful to limit my references to
the King James Bible in line with our DBS documents such as: (1) a
'true, faithful, and accurate translation' of which we can say, 'This is
the Word of God' [ARTICLES, p. 3]; or (2) 'The Authorized Version has been, and continues to be, the God-honored, most accurate, and
best translation from the proper original language texts of the inspired,
inerrant, infallible, and authoritative Word of God for the
English-speaking nations'" [BIBLE PRESERVATION, p. 7
"K"]
The second paragraph (2b) had 100% ballot
agreement. It reads as follows: "Since our DBS documents do
NOT teach that the King James Bible (or any other translation) was
'given by inspiration of God' (God-breathed) (2 Timothy 3:16), I
will not refer to the King James Bible (or any other translation) as being
'given by inspiration of God' (God-breathed) (2 Timothy 3:16)"
These statements are very important in view of the
present Bible-version debate.
As in other years, some of our speakers will speak for
25 minutes and some 45 minutes. This will give us a balance of
long-and-short messages. We hope to have time for visiting one another
since we will have two hours for lunch and two hours for supper. We hope
those in attendance will take advantage of lunch and supper to visit with
their friends who attend the Conference. Since we have such a short time
together, we don't want to cut short our primary mission of delivering messages "IN DEFENSE OF TRADITIONAL BIBLE TEXTS."
Our messages given at the DBS 2001 meetings are
available in three ways: (1) Nine audio cassettes (#3037/1-9 @ $25+$4
S&H); (2) Three, 6-hour video cassettes (#3037VC1-3 @ $35+$5 S&H);
or (3) Our 2001 DBS Message Book with some of the messages
(#3037-P, 144 pp. @ $15+$4 S&H). We expect to have our DBS 2002
messages available as soon as possible after the meetings in the same way.
You may pre-order them if you wish at the same prices.
