"The Words of the Lord are pure Words: as silver tried in a furnace
of earth, purified seven times. Thou shalt keep them, O Lord, thou shalt preserve them
from this generation for ever." (Psalm 12:6-7)
Ramsey, MN Calling DBS--July
18-19, 2001
This year, our Dean Burgon Society will be meeting in Ramsey, MN
(near Minneapolis). We will be meeting in the Independent Baptist
Church. Our host will be Pastor Charles Nichols. The address
of the church is 15650 Sunfish Lake Blvd., N.W., Ramsey, MN 55303.
There are two phones available to the church: 763-421-3050 or
763-323-7266.
The dates for our 23nd annual meeting of our DEAN BURGON SOCIETY have
been set for Wednesday and Thursday, July 18-19, 2001. We
hope you can set aside these dates for this July and join us at the
Independent Baptist Church, Ramsey, MN. If you are coming, we suggest
you get in Tuesday, July 17th so you can be on hand for the
Executive Committee meeting Wednesday at 9 a.m. and the DBS Women
at 10 a.m. All the men are invited to the Executive Committee
meeting and all ladies to the DBS Women.
For all of the information on our 2001 Dean Burgon Society meeting,
you can go to our DBS website that is kept up by Mr. Ted Grasser
who is on our DBS Advisory Council. The web address is
www.DeanBurgonSociety.org. To find out the in- formation, just go to
the home page, then click on "ANNUAL MEETINGS." When there, click
on "DBS 2001, 23rd ANNUAL MEETING." There, you can find the
following things: "MAP OF RAMSEY," or "RESTAURANTS," or
"LODGING."
Pastor Nichols recommends that you stay in the Anoka Super Eight
Motel in Anoka, MN. It is 3 minutes from the church. The phone is
763-422-8000. It is off U. S. Highway 10 & 169. There are only 5
DBS rooms left as of 6/4/01 at the Super Eight Motel. One
queen bed for $43.80 including tax and two queen beds for
$54.75 including tax. The motel is located at 1129 W. Highway 10,
Anoka, MN. When you call, (before July 10th),
tell them you are with the Dean Burgon Society meetings as part of the 5
remaining rooms. They may have other rooms available, but you
should call as soon as possible. There is a soccer game this same
week.
The Red Carpet Inn in Elk River, MN is no longer at that location
so the information given in the last DBS News should be
disregarded. We found this out by a phone call at press time. We are
sorry for this confusion.
Dr. Bob Barnett has done an excellent job as usual for which we thank
him. He has contacted all of our leaders requesting them to speak either
25 or 45 minutes. Here is the schedule as of press time.

"10 Reasons DBS Deserves Its Name" |
Our host Church, Independent Baptist, has offered to prepare the
meals for Lunch and Supper for both Wednesday and
Thursday, July 18-19. These will be on a freewill offering
basis. There will be a basket at the beginning of the line
for you to place your offering in order to offset expenses. We are
grateful for this service from the church. It will enable us to have
more time for our speakers.
All women are invited to the DBS Women's meeting Wednesday
morning from 10 a.m. to 12 noon, July 18th. The DBS
President's wife (Mrs. Waite) has arranged the speakers. You can
bring visitors from the church and/or surrounding areas as well. Our
main speaker this year will be Mrs. Tiangay Joah from Liberia,
West Africa.
Be sure to come to hear Pastor St. Solomon Joah from Monrovia,
Liberia, West Africa. He and Mrs. Joah have never been to the
United States before. Pastor and Mrs. Waite had meetings with them
in Africa three different times.
Some of our Dean Burgon Society leaders have been confused about
a version of the Bible called the "Easy Reading KJV." They were
under the impression that this was a project of both the Dean Burgon
Society and The Bible For Today. This is totally false. This
version was not a project of either the Dean Burgon Society
or the Bible For Today. Neither organization will sell it, use it,
quote from it or promote it. What individuals might do with this
version is their own decision.
The ONLY English Bible the DBS will use and defend
is the King James Bible. We have made this clear in our
positions throughout our 23 years of existence. We do not intend to
change. Our DBS Articles of Faith say in part:
"We, believe that the King James Version (or Authorized
Version) of the English Bible is a true, faithful, and accurate
translation of these two providentially preserved Texts, which
in our time has no equal among all of the other English Translations.
The translators did such a fine job in their translation task that
we can without apology hold up the Authorized Version of 1611 and
say "This is the WORD OF GOD!" . . . We believe that all the verses
in the King James Version belong in the Old and the New Testaments
because they represent words we believe were in the original texts,
. . ." |
