"The Words of the Lord are pure Words: as silver tried in a furnace
of earth, purified seven times. Thou shalt keep them, O Lord, thou shalt preserve them
from this generation for ever." (Psalm 12:6-7)
Come to Ramsey, MN July 18-19 for DBS
This year, our Dean Burgon Society will be meeting in Ramsey, MN (near Minneapolis). We will be meeting in the Independent Baptist Church. Our host will
be Pastor Charles Nichols. The address of the church is 15650 Sunfish Lake Blvd.,
N.W., Ramsey, MN 55303. There are two phones available to the church:
763-421-3050 or 763-323-7266.
For all of the information on our 2001 Dean Burgon Society meeting, you can go to
our DBS website that is kept up by Mr. Ted Grasser who is on our DBS Advisory Council.
The web address is www.Dean
BurgonSociety.org. A "MAP OF RAMSEY", "RESTAURANTS", and "LODGING"
links can be found on our DBS 2001 Meeting page by clicking
here.
The dates for our 23nd annual meeting of our DEAN BURGON SOCIETY have been set for
Wednesday and Thursday, July 18-19, 2001. We hope you can set aside these dates
for this July and join us at the Independent Baptist Church, Ramsey, MN. If you
are coming, we suggest you get in Tuesday, July 17th so you can be on hand for the
Executive Committee meeting Wednesday at 9 a.m. and the DBS Women at 10 a.m. All
the men are invited to the Executive Committee meeting and all ladies to the DBS Women.
- 2 Motels Available. Pastor Nichols has given
us two motels that he recommends:
(1) The Anoka Super Eight Motel in Anoka, MN. It is 3 minutes from the church.
The phone is 763-422-8000. It is off U. S. Highway 10/169. We have set
aside 15 single queen bed rooms in the Super Eight Motel since it seems to be the best
deal all around. It will be under new management very soon (probably in April).
The old manager (Deb) would give us one queen bed for $59.00 including tax and two
queen beds for $62.00. We're not certain if the new manager will honor these
prices, but we are hopeful. The motel is located at 1129 W. Highway 10, Anoka, MN.
When you call, tell them you are with the Dean Burgon Society meetings as part of the 15 rooms. They may have other rooms available, but you should call as soon as
possible since there is a big soccer tournament in town the same week.
(2) The Red Carpet Inn in Elk River, MN. It is 10 minutes from the church.
The phone is 763-441-2424. It is off U. S. Highway 10/169. Prices not
known.
As usual, we have asked Dr. Bob Barnett to contact the various men to see if they
will be attending our DBS 2001 meeting and if they will be able to speak to us.
Some will speak 25 minutes and some 45 minutes as last year. In the next issue of
our DBS News we will list the names and subjects that will be covered in the July
18-19 meetings. You will know our speakers and their topics.

Our host Church, Independent Baptist, has offered to prepare the meals for Lunch and
Supper for both Wednesday and Thursday, July 18-19. These will be on a freewill
offering basis. There will be a basket at the beginning of the line for you to
place your offering in order to offset expenses. We are grateful for this service
from the church. It will enable us to have more time for our speakers.
All women are invited to the DBS Women's meeting Wednesday morning from 10 a.m. to
12 noon, July 18th. The DBS President's wife (Mrs. Waite) will arrange the
speakers for our DBS ladies. You can bring visitors from the church and/or
surrounding areas as well. One of our speakers will be Mrs. Tiangay Joah from
Liberia, West Africa. You will want to hear her stirring Christian testimony!
One of our DBS Advisory Council Members from Monrovia, Liberia, West Africa will be
speaking to us this year at Ramsey, MN. His name is Pastor St. Solomon Joah.
His wife, Tiangay Joah, will be speaking to our DBS Women.
$3,000 Goal Flying round trip for two and expenses from Liberia, West Africa is about $2,000.
Expenses for two for nine days (July 14-23) plus flying round trip from Collingswood,
NJ to Ramsey, MN is about another $1,000. This totals about $3,000. Pastor Joah
is supported as a national missionary from the Bible For Today Baptist Church (BFTBC)
in Collingswood, NJ where our DBS President, Dr. D. A. Waite, is Pastor. >From a DBS
friend and that local church, as of this printing, $1445 of this amount has come
in, leaving a balance of $1555. Can you help us with this balance?
Pastor Joah's Plight Pastor Joah and his family escaped with their lives during the civil war in Liberia,
West Africa, which left over 60,000 Liberians dead at the hands of the revolutionaries.
They fled to Sierra Leone for safety and then had to leave there and return to Liberia
because of battles in Sierra Leone. He has a wealth of experiences to relate to
us. He is a faithful servant of our Saviour.
Joah's Preaching Pastor Joah is Pastor of the Refuge Baptist Church in Monrovia, Liberia. He is
on two radio stations preaching the gospel and standing for the King James Bible and
its underlying Hebrew and Greek texts. His topic in Ramsey, MN this year will be:
"The Battle Over Versions: The Enemies' Smokescreen for a Confused People in
Africa." Please be in prayer as the Joahs come to the United States of
America for the first time. Pray especially for what will be a powerful defense
of our King James Bible.
In January and February, the Dean Burgon Society President sent detailed letters to
the DBS Executive Committee and the DBS Advisory Council summarizing the DBS documents'
position on the inspiration of the Bible. The DBS position is clear that when 2
Timothy 3:16-17 uses the term, "inspiration of God" (theopneustos), it means
"God-breathed." The DBS position is clear that the only written materials
that were "God-breathed" were the Hebrew and Aramaic Old Testament Scriptures
and the Greek New Testament Scriptures. The DBS position is that this term,
"God-breathed," cannot Scripturally be used of any translation of those
Providentially preserved texts of Hebrew/Aramaic and Greek, in any language on earth,
however accurate such translations might be.
Though in past years, there has been a laxity on this matter, hereafter only those
who hold to this official DBS position on Bible inspiration (as well as on all of its
other positions) will be eligible to be on the Dean Burgon Society Executive
Committee, on the DBS Advisory Council, or to be DBS members in good and regular
standing.
With the false and extreme position of Dr. Peter Ruckman of Pensacola, Florida
making huge inroads into the King James Bible ranks, it is of utmost importance that
our Dean Burgon Society remains on its historic track in this battle for our Bible.
We reject the Ruckman position of the King James Bible being "given by inspiration
of God" and therefore "God-breathed." We reject this "double
inspiration" view as erroneous and heretical. We further reject the Ruckman
heresy that the King James Bible can upon occasion "correct" even the Hebrew
and Greek manuscripts from which it was taken, giving "advanced revelation."
There must be a clear division between our Dean Burgon Society and the false
teachings of Ruckmanism. The books following Westcott & Hort have lumped many
of our DBS leaders into the same camp as that of Peter Ruckman. This is totally
unfair, misleading and false. |
